How You Can Help

1.
Prepare / Update your Will and name the Metropolitan United Church Foundation as one of your primary Charities.

2.
Make a direct donation or transfer ownership of investments (including life insurance) to the Foundation. This will provide you an immediate tax receipt for your donation.

3.
Name the Foundation as beneficiary on an investment (or life insurance) policy. This will provide a tax benefit directly to your estate.

The Next Steps
You spent a life time building your legacy. You've donated your time and your tithe to help build a strong foundation for Metropolitan today. But what about the future? How can you help ensure your legacy lives on and Metropolitan continues to have the ability to meet the challenges of the future?

The answers is, by making a donation to the Metropolitan Foundation (along with a "10 Year Card"). Three easy ways to do this (as listed above) are by updating your Will; donating assets you no longer need; and by naming the Foundation as beneficiary on your investment/insurance policies.

Did you know that YOU CAN CHOOSE which 2 of 3 groups will share in your estate: your loved ones, the government (i.e. taxes) or your Charities. Having a well thought out Estate Plan will ensure your assets are distributed to only those groups you choose and will help your loved ones avoid unnecessary stress, fees and taxes.

While each of these steps are easy to implement, care should be taken before proceeding. We strongly recommend you consult with your Financial Advisor before proceeding.

10 Year Card

The KEY to preserving your donation!
To maintain their registered status under the Tax Act, Charities must disperse 100% of the gifts received in the preceding year. However, the Tax Act provide an alternative when donors direct the Charity to NOT disperse their gift for at least 10 years.

This 10 year rule is the key to the Metropolitan Foundation. All gifts to the foundation have a "10-year card" attached to them and therefore allow the Foundation to maintain the gift indefinitely. As a result, disbursement quotas are reduced to 3.5% of assets which are then made from the interest earned on the portfolio.

If you want Metropolitan to preserve your gift and allow your legacy to live on for decades to come, be sure to include a 10-year card with your donation. Your grandchildren and your great grandchildren will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

To get your 10-year card, please visit the church office, or print your own card from this link.
